A Promise To Care For Us.
In Revelation 21, almost at the very end of God's Word to us we are reminded of the essential characteristic of God towards us....
....care
"....To him who is thirsty I will give to drink without cost from the spring of the water of life" Revelation 21:6
With that in mind, have a great day and a very blessed new year,
Peter Clark.

Another Morning Prayer.
Here is another good prayer to start the morning with....
"We (I) consecrate this day to your service, O Lord; may all our (my) thoughts, words, and actions be well-pleasing to you and serve the good of our (my) brothers and sisters; through Jesus Christ our Lord Amen."

God's Holy Spirit In The Old Testament.
There are lots of examples of God's Holy Spirit in the Old Testament.
I came across one example this morning....
Nehemiah 9 verse 20 and verse 30.
"You gave your good Spirit to instruct them."
"By your Spirit you admonished them through your prophets."

Celebration Of The Word Of God.
Nehemiah 8:2-6
"So on the first day of the seventh month Ezra the priest brought the Law before the assembly, which was made up of men and women and all who were able to understand. He read it aloud from daybreak till noon as he faced the square before the Water Gate in the presence of the men, women and others who could understand. And all the people listened attentively to the book of the Law. Ezra the scribe stood on a high wooden platform built for the occasion....Ezra opened the book. All the people could see him because he was standing above them; and as he opened it, the people all stood up. Ezra praised the Lord, the great God; and all the people lifted their hands and responded, "Amen, Amen" Then they bowed down and worshiped the Lord with their faces to the ground."

In Praise Of A Good Wife.
Proverbs 31:10-20
10 A truly good wife
is the most precious treasure
a man can find!
11 Her husband depends on her,
and she never
lets him down.
12 She is good to him
every day of her life,
13 and with her own hands
she gladly makes clothes.

every day of her life,
13 and with her own hands

14 She is like a sailing ship
that brings food
from across the sea.
15 She gets up before daylight
to prepare food
for her family
and for her servants.
16 She knows how to buy land
and how to plant a vineyard,
17 and she always works hard.
18 She knows when to buy or sell,
and she stays busy
until late at night.
19 She spins her own cloth,
20 and she helps the poor
and the needy.

"Song Of Moses" From Revelation.
It is good to be reminded of the greatness of God. These verses certainly do that....very powerfully.
"Great and marvelous are your deeds,
Lord God Almighty.
Just and true are your ways.
King of the ages.
Who will not fear you, O Lord,
and bring glory to your name?
For you alone are holy.
All nations will come
and worship before you,
for your righteous acts have been revealed." Revelation 15:3-4

Hearing And Doing.
I started reading Revelation this morning and in the very first paragraph there is a reminder that not only are we to read the Word of God, but to put it into action in our lives.
"Blessed is the one who reads the words of this prophecy, and blessed are those who hear it and take to heart what is written in it, because the time is near." (Revelation 1:3)

Praying For The Lord's Help.
Psalm 140:1-5
A Prayer for the Lord’s Help
140 Rescue me from cruel
and violent enemies, Lord!
2 They think up evil plans
and always cause trouble.
3 Their words bite deep
like the poisonous fangs
of a snake.

and always cause trouble.
3 Their words bite deep

4 Protect me, Lord, from cruel
and brutal enemies,
who want to destroy me.

traps and nets
to catch me as I walk.

God Wins.
In these later days of 2012 my Bible Readings (the Old Testament ones) come from Ezra.
As you know it all has to do with the rebuilding of the Temple. Jewish people are allowed to go and work on the construction etc.
But there is much opposition.......just like there is in our mission to proclaim God's Gospel and in the leading of His Church.
But don't be discouraged....in the end.... God wins....always....and so do not give up.
Have a great day,

For The Pregnant Ones!
Psalm 139 came up today in my Bible reading.
"You are the one who put me together
inside my mother's body,
and I praise you
because of the wonderful way you created me.
Everything you do is marvellous!
Of this I have no doubt.
Nothing about me is hidden from you!
I was secretly woven together
deep in the earth below,
but with your own eyes
you saw my body being formed.
Even before I was born, you had written in your book
everything I would do." (vs 13-16)

Coming Up....In Heaven Near You.
Revelation 7:9-17
This is a great vision of our future.
9 After this, I saw a large crowd with more people than could be counted. They were from every race, tribe, nation, and language, and they stood before the throne and before the Lamb. They wore white robes and held palm branches in their hands, 10 as they shouted,
Then he told me:
“Our God, who sits
upon the throne,
has the power
to save his people,
and so does the Lamb.”
upon the throne,
has the power
to save his people,
and so does the Lamb.”
11 The angels who stood around the throne knelt in front of it with their faces to the ground. The elders and the four living creatures knelt there with them. Then they all worshiped God 12 and said,
“Amen! Praise, glory, wisdom,
thanks, honor, power,
and strength belong to our God
forever and ever! Amen!”
thanks, honor, power,
and strength belong to our God
forever and ever! Amen!”
13 One of the elders asked me, “Do you know who these people are that are dressed in white robes? Do you know where they come from?”
14 “Sir,” I answered, “you must know.”Then he told me:
“These are the ones
who have gone through
the great suffering.
They have washed their robes
in the blood of the Lamb
and have made them white.
15 And so they stand
before the throne of God
and worship him in his temple
day and night.
The one who sits on the throne
will spread his tent
over them.
16 They will never hunger
or thirst again,
and they won’t be troubled
by the sun
or any scorching heat.

The True Light!
In December Heather and I were invited to the local council chambers for the annual Jewish celebration of Chunakah - The Festival Of Lights.
Invited along were Jews, Christians, Hindus and others.
All cultures have a celebration of lights. The only culture that doesn't is the "others". Theirs is a culture of "nothingness" (and it shows).
John the Baptist said this of Jesus, "The true light that shines on everyone was coming into the world; The Word was in the world, but no one knew him, though God had made the world with his Word." John 10:10

We have to be careful what we say....
Psalm 141:3-4
"Set a guard over my mouth, O LORD;

to take part in wicked deeds
with men who are evildoers;
let me not eat of their delicacies."

God Knows.
In the early chapters of the Revelation we see that God has a very clear and detailed knowledge of his people.
In Chapter 2 God says to the church in Ephesus...
"...I know your deeds, your hard work and your perseverance. I know that you cannot tolerate wicked men, that you have tested those who claim to be apostles but are not, and have found them false. You have persevered and have endured hardships for my name, and have not grown weary." (vs 2-4)

Being Open To God.
A secret of a healthy relationship, with God, or with anyone is to be open and sincere.
We see that was a priority for the Psalmist too, in Psalm 139...
"Search me, O God, and know my heart;
test me and know my anxious thoughts.
See if there is any offensive way in me,
and lead me in the way everlasting." (v.23-24)

Keep On Keeping On.
Jude writes in his letter....
"But you, dear friends, build yourselves up in your most holy faith and pray in the Holy Spirit. Keep yourselves in God's love as you wait for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ to bring you to eternal life.
Be merciful to those who doubt; snatch others from the fire and save them; to others show mercy, mixed with fear - hating even the clothing stained by corrupted flesh." (Jude 20-23)
The words immediately following those words are....
"To him who is able to keep you from falling and to present you before his glorious presence without fault and with great joy...."
TFTD: Let us continually remember that God can keep us - stay close - pray.

The Worst Thing To Do!
Do you want to get offside with God?
Would you like to provoke a patient God to anger?
Here is how you do it.
Zechariah 7:11-13
"But they refused to pay attention; stubbornly they turned their backs and stopped up their ears. They made their hearts as hard as flint and would not listen to the law or to the words that the LORD Almighty had sent by his Spirit through the earlier prophets. So the LORD Almighty was very angry.
When I called, they did not listen; so when they called, I would not listen, says the LORD Almighty."

Great Scott What An Great Encouragement.
Heather and I have been away on a short holiday. We met up briefly with some old friends and parishioners.
It was so encouraging to see them actively engaged in exercising their faith.
I understood what John was saying as he wrote....

In The Coming Days....
In the coming days we learn of what will come about - perhaps what HAS come about already.
"Many deceivers, who do not acknowledge Jesus Christ as coming in the flesh, have gone out into the world. Any such person is a deceiver and the antichrist. Watch out that you do not lose what you have worked for, but that you may be rewarded fully. Anyone who runs ahead and does not continue in the teaching of Christ does not have God; whoever continues in the teaching has both the Father and the Son. If anyone comes to you and does not bring this teaching, do not take him into your house or welcome him. Anyone who welcomes him shares in his wicked work." (2 John 7-11)

Light For The Jews.
I knew a Jewish man in a former Parish who told me that as a child he was forbidden to read Daniel.
Of course, he couldn't wait to read the Prophet.
He became convinced that the Prophet was writing about the coming Messiah (who he now embraced).
What really helped him was doing the mathematics of Daniel 12, verses 11 and 12.
"From the time that the daily sacrifice is abolished and the abomination that causes desolation is set up, there will be 1,290 days. Blessed is the one who waits for and reaches the end of the 1,335 days."
It might seem a small and insignificant point for us....but for him it was huge.....so huge that he could not get around it.

God's Love Shown To Us.
As John writes...he is crystal clear when it come to defining and describing the love of God.
Here are some examples......
"This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him." (1 John 4:9)
"This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins." (1 John 4:10)

It Is Not A Surprise.
It always comes as a surprise.....but shouldn't....
1 John 3:13 "Do not be surprised, my brothers, if the world hates you."
If the living of our life is "preaching" the Gospel of Christ, then let us not be surprised that we will be hated, and suffer persecution in some form or another.
Count it an honour....to suffer with Christ.

Two Great Truths.
This morning I was reminded of two great truths from 1 John 3.
"How great is the love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! (v.1)
"But you know that he appeared so that he might take away our sins. And in him is no sin." (v.5)

An Od Testament Description Of Jesus.
An Old Testament description of Jesus from Daniel 7 verses 13and 14....
"In my vision at night I looked, and there before me was one like a son of man, coming with the clouds of heaven. He approached the Ancient of Days and was led into his presence. He was given authority, glory and sovereign power; all peoples, nations and men of every language worshipped him. His dominion is an everlasting dominion that will not pass away, and his kingdom is one that will never be destroyed."
TFTD: It is a great comfort to know that Jesus was a part of God's BIG plan for the world. This plan went back to the beginning of the world.
We too are a part of that plan......amazing.
