I came across this as I was reading Deuteronomy this morning.
Deuteronomy 4:9 (The Message)
9 Just make sure you stay alert. Keep close watch over yourselves. Don't forget anything of what you've seen. Don't let your heart wander off. Stay vigilant as long as you live. Teach what you've seen and heard to your children and grandchildren.
It is a good reminder, isn't it? The NIV says we are to "watch ourselves closely".
It was written to the people of God, just before they were to take possession of their promised land. History tells us that they didn't do so well.
