What do you think that the absolutely worst thing that could ever happen to you?
Perhaps you might think- losing your job - or your health - or your husband or wife - or child/ren.
And they would all be pretty bad, but the absolute worst thing far exceeds anything like that we might experience.
In 2 Kings 17 we see the culmination of the life of evil that Israel were continually involved in. They were so tied up with "worthless idols" that they themselves had become "worthless".
They were even sacrificing their children in the fire - they practiced divination and sorcery and "sold themselves to do evil in the eyes of the Lord"
It seems as though His people couldn't do anything worse.
What happens to the people then?
It is worse than a foreign power coming down and wiping them out.
It is worst than some disease.
What happens?
God removed them from His presence - we see it mentioned four times in a few verses.- verse 18, 20 (twice) and verse 23.
It must be an awesome thing to be in the presence of God.
It must be an awful thing not to be in the presence of God.
