The writer to the Hebrews is talking about how great Jesus is and he describes what Jesus came to this earth to do.
It is put very simply.
"....so that by the grace of God he might taste death for everyone." (Hebrews 2:9c)
That is very clear isn't it? Jesus came to die our eternal death so that we might live his eternal life.
