The Submission Debate.

Have you caught up with the "submission debate" raging?

It resulted from a new Wedding Service which includes the words that the bride must "submit" to her new husband.

Everyone in the media is up in arms.

I wonder if Christian people are so agitated about it?

This morning I read....."Wives, submit to your husband as to the Lord. For the husband is head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church, his body, of which he is Saviour. Now as the church submits to Christ, so also wives should submit to their husbands in everything." (Ephesians 5:22-24)

Paul was writing to the Christians who were living at Ephesus. This is what the Christian people were to do. The people who were not "Christian" living in Ephesus couldn't be expected to (it would help them if they did though).

The Christian people would have to work out how that submission might work out for them in practice. Remember that it is in the context of  "husbands, love your wives" (5:25) and "submit to one another out of your reverence for Christ." (5:21)
